Most seniors read the obituaries religiously, mostly to see if they have put in an appearance yet on those pages. Here are a couple of items gleaned from reading recent obituaries:
- Members of the LDS (Mormon) faith typically list many, if not all, of the church service assignments they fulfilled during their lives, referred to as "callings." For one recent obituary of an elderly man, I learned of a unique calling: "His calling was to trap gophers on the church farm." Actually this calling may have been more useful than many other possible service assignments.
- So-and-so is survived by his family of four cats, Katie, Kylie, and I can't remember the other two.
