In keeping with the Curmudgeonly Professor's newly found interest in finding and trying out recipes, here are two I am passing along today. The first is a recipe for sweet 'n sour beans. I am not kidding you, these beans are the best I have ever eaten. Those to whom I fed these beans also agreed. Just get about a half dozen different kinds of beans, onions, bacon, brown sugar, etc., and there you have sweet 'n sour beans. The recipe is at allrecipes.com. I need to learn how to post live links directly in my blog posts, but in lieu thereof, go to allrecipes.com link posted at the right under food and cooking blogs, then search for sweet 'n sour beans. You will never be sorry.
Then, since we had my son and daughter in law over the weekend, I needed something to have with the beans, so to speak. So I decided on sloppy joes. My wife said, just dump in a can of Manwhich and have it over with. I said no, I'm going to trust Mel's Kitchen Cafe (live link posted at right under food and cooking blogs) and went to her "best sloppy joes" recipe since I have found before that when she says "best", she means best and is not fooling around. Once again, rave reviews on the sloppy joes. Mel's Kitchen Cafe is one of my favorite blogs and I am on her daily recipe email. Her recipes are detailed, full of photos, and lots of fun. I emailed her once and told her as far as I knew, I was her only male commenter and she fired back a cheerful comment. I don't know who Mel, who I assume is Melanie, is, but I love her anyway.
So dig out some beans and some hamburger and fix these two recipes and then write and tell me what you think.
